Activities: Euskara on the park
This idea came about as some members of the Italian Euskal Etxea (based in Rome) told us about their own experiences and how they decided to get down to business and organise regular gatherings in order to practice Euskara. So they created what they called "Euskara on the park".
We all know how hard it is finding in London a chance to meet native Basque speakers and to practice this language. However, we have a good advantage here and so, these meetings have been taking place for a few months already. Our teacher - irakasle Agurtzane has been leading them quite successfully. These gatherings are of course free of charge and all that is required is a willingness to try and speak Euskara. Likewise, if you are a native Basque speaker living in London or nearby, we would very much welcome you to this gatherings or to any other event or ocassion for that matter. Whether you are an student wanting to practice and learn, or someone who already speaks it but would like to contribute or help with this gatherings, please contact the Society.
This project would benefit a lot from having a permanent centre, especially for winter months, since this centre could create a regular spot for people to speak Basque more often and to get a closer insight of the Basque langauge at all levels (colloquial and through media - TV, radio, films, etc)
This year has probably been the most successful when it comes to Basque lessons and Basque teaching and practicing in general. In one year we have doubled the number of students and we have been able to split the lessons in 2 levels. This, along with the Euskara practice days, ensures that our students/speakers get a chance to browse or improve their knowledge.
